St. Joseph Sevalaya surajpura community comes in Mandla district.(m.p.) from Jabalpur railway station its 100 k.m. and from Mandla 25 k.m. Surajpura is a village surrounded by Narmada river and forest. To find to means to go to Surajpura is very difficult, only countable autoes run from Mandla to Surajpura, after 3pm no means to go to this place, yes people get frighten to travel in the road., because of forest area.Surajpura is known for Natural beauty. Under this community around eighteen villages come.
The main aaposlate of this community is pastoral work, and education. The seven sub center for Balbadi ,for this they are animators to look after this, sister is the incharage of this department. She goes to visit everyday. sisters go to village every day without a gape. All the villages are very far from main center surajpura.most of the times sisters go to village by walking. This area is known for the tribal area. The way of life style of people is very simple. The culture of these peoples are very unique. They wear dhoti and saree.In especial occasion men wear dhoti kurtha,and women wear saree and old women wear dhoti,their ornaments are different according to their cultural. Their local language is gundi, they speak and understand Hindi also. They are very hardworking people. They cultivate different types of padi,pulses etc. For cultivation they depend on rain water. It’s under developing area. Most of the people are illiterate because of lack of school and financial problems. But Nowadays they are aware of important of education and they are sending their children to school for study. Sisters they teaches them the value of life, important of hygiene and self-awareness.
